GREEN TIPS

At home

  • Recycle as much of your waste as possible, reduce the amount of waste you produce, reuse items where possible.
  • Use natural light as much as possible and switch off lights when you are not using them.
  • Only fill kettles to level required, don't heat up water that you are not going to use.
  • Wash full loads of laundry. Wash smaller loads only if you can select a lower water level.
  • Don't leave the TV, computer, ect. on standby. Appliances on standby can use up to 70% of the energy they use when switched on.
  • Drink tap water instead bottle water. Tap water creates less waste, uses less energy to transport and is cheaper than bottled water.
  • Turn off a tap whilst brushing your teeth or shaving.
  • Use a lid on your pan when you're cooking.

Shopping

  • Refuse plastic carrier bags, always take your own bag when shopping.
  • Use charity shops for getting rid of your unwanted stuff.
  • Shop in the local markets and choose organic market whenever possible.
  • Buy products in reusable containers and avoid products with excess packaging.

Travelling

  • Avoid using cars whenever possible. Walk, cycle or use public transportation for short journeys.
  • Drive more slowly! Driving at 50mph instead of 70mph can reduce your fuel consumption by 30%.
  • Drive more smoothly! Avoiding sharp braking and rapid acceleration can reduce your fuel consumption.
  • Share your trips! Sharing your car is good for the environment and your finances.

At work

  • Bring a mug to work! Use a mug or glass for your drinks instead of disposable cups.
  • Print your emails only when it's absolutely necessary.
  • Use both sides of a sheet of paper.
